I'm playing some catch-up here on our blog, but wanted to be sure to mention our Spring Break camping trip that we took. Because of Tyler's baptism, which was on the Saturday following Spring Break, we had to stay pretty close to home for Spring Break this year, which was just fine by us! We took a two day camping trip just north of here at Canyon Lake with two other families. Actually, we planned this outing as our "dinner group" for the month of March - but it turned out to just be a good excuse to do some camping with friends. When we planned this trip in January, we were envisioning some serious warmth! March - and Spring Break in particular- seemed so far away, that we were sure it would be warm by then! Well, we were about a week off, unfortunately, but it was very fun regardless. We didn't take the boat out, as we thought we would when we were planning the trip, but that's OK. The boys did lots of fishing and hiking, and we had some great camping food. We split up all the meals, so that each family was in charge of one meal. It was a great way to try some different things, and to get new ideas for the next trip (such as the scones one night for dessert...yum!). I should probably mention the fact that we were staying in these rustic little cabins that the military has up at the lake. They were sweet!! Only $35 a night, and they were nice and warm (or cool, depending on the season)...with beds! They only sleep 4 people, and are probably only 200 square feet, but that was fine because the boys were planning to sleep outside in the "boys tent." We volunteered to supply the tent for all the boys to sleep in - the old Carlson dome tent, that Bryan has had since he was a kid. So anyway, it rained. It rained and it poured, and that ol' tent did not survive the storm. At about 10:00, the boys came out and told us that the tent was leaking on them. By 11:00 we took pity on them and the puddles of water in the tent, and we all took them into our cabins. Thankfully Ruby is still in her pack-&-play, so the bottom bunk in our cabin was available for the boys to sleep in. But they had to share it! By this time, however, they were so exhausted (and glad to be in some decent shelter!) that they fell right to sleep. And with the exception of Tyler falling out of bed during the night, we all slept like champs. Well, the next morning was our turn to cook our meal. It was still pouring rain outside, and so we got to cook our Ziplock omelets for 20 people in the rain or underneath the tiny little shelter of the cabin. Yeah...it sounded like a better idea before the fact. We always love making those omelets when camping, but mass producing them in the rain was quite an ordeal. Thankfully we also had hot chocolate and muffins, but when we saw some of the kids throw half their omelet away...we just about made them fish it out and eat the rest! But we restrained ourselves, and didn't lose any friends this trip. :) But anyway, the trip was a great one, and we will definitely go back up there for another campout. Next time with a new tent!

JD bought a tent a few years ago. I think he was hoping that I'd come around to the idea of camping. I'm considering it this year... if the forecast is nice and clear and the nights aren't too hot. :)
I can just envision you all huddled under the "shelter" making Ziploc omelets! My kids would be a mess! And I probably would lose friends!! :)
