Spencer earned his Eagle Scout!! After years of scouting, and a massive Eagle project, Spencer officially became an Eagle Scout. His project was done over the summer - he organized a book drive and the painting of book shelves, which he and Tyler delivered to the Methodist Children's Hospital - but it was months of paperwork followed by his Board of Review before we could hold his Court of Honor. We held it over Christmas break, which meant he had grandparents, great-grandparents, an aunt, uncle, and cousins here for it. It was a full day of baking at our house, in preparation for the big night, and it was a very nice ceremony. Spencer's Grandpa Carlson and Great-Grandpa Carlson both spoke, and great-grandpa gave Spencer a flag that had been awarded to him for all his years in the forest service. That was a very nice gift, which Spencer really enjoyed. A highlight for Spencer was the signed picture of Adam Levine that was sent to him in congratulations of earning this award. He loved that! Kudos and thanks go out to his amazing Scoutmaster (and dad!) for making this award possible.

Christmas Day
Well, Santa came! Christmas Day was a flurry of activity, filled with presents, food, more presents, and more food. It was quite a glorious day! I always love to see how excited the kids are about their presents. For example, Ruby and Ella could not have been more excited about this year's family gift - new Kindle Fire's each of the kids! Tyler could not have been more excited about his new fuzzy blanket, which he now wears Obi-Wan style all over the house. And Spencer...well, Spencer was a real teenager this year. He wasn't happy about the sunglasses that were in his stocking (he didn't like the color), and so he was fairly grumpy for most of the day (sad!). He finally perked up when he got a new Taylor Swift calendar. I was so happy to see that smile! It was a really great day, and I think the kids loved it. And that's really what it's all about!
