The morning after Christmas, we headed to the airport to try and get a flight into Minneapolis. All 6 of us managed to make it on the flight, and we were excited to meet G&G Carlson at the airport in Minneapolis. After attempting to catch a final flight to Brainerd, but then learning that all of Brainerd was covered in a sheet of ice, we ended up renting a giant van and hitting the road. Our kids wanted cold, and they were getting cold! What a wonderful couple of days we had in Brainerd with Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Carlson. Bryan loved showing the kids around the old farm in Aikin, and sharing some of his favorite childhood memories with them. The kids were just jewels, and I'm so glad we were able to spend that time together.
We decided the take the long way back to Texas...via Boise! Bonus cousin week! We hot tubbed and sledded and did puzzles and played games, and generally just had a fabulous few days. Hey family, are you interested in dropping everything and playing with us for a few days??? That's basically what we said to them on Christmas Day! But they always make us feel so welcome, and we all have such a great time.

Christmas Day 2016
Christmas Day had arrived! We had a wonderful day together, and enjoyed singing beautiful Christmas songs together at church on Christmas Sunday. The kids opened their stockings and the family gift (which was a mystery trip of their choosing), and we had batch 1 of sticky buns, before church. When we got home from church, the kids promptly changed back into their pajamas for the rest of the day. We opened presents, played with toys, ate lots more, and generally just had a fabulous day. The big question of the day was WHERE the kids would choose to go for their Mystery Trip! After weighing different options (the beach in Puerto Rico was a front runner), they decided that they wanted to find snow and winter! So we packed our bags with the very limited selection of warm clothes that we own, and set our alarms for an early flight to Minnesota the next morning. Surprise Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Carlson!!
