Easter

Good Friday was really warm this year, so the girls and I took advantage of the day off school to head up to Canyon Lake to try out the new paddle boards.  We had a great time!  We colored Easter eggs the next day, and geared up for Easter Sunday.  It was a great morning, and a fun day.  Happy Easter!

Concerts and Madrigal Festival

The kids all participated in some great Spring concerts and performances.  Ella's 6th grade choir did a cute musical (At the Bandstand), and she was adorable in it.  Both boys sang at their UIL concert, and Spencer competed in the Madrigal Festival.  His choir was the first to perform, out of 50 or so choirs from all over Texas, and they ended up winning first place!  First place in the entire state of Texas!  They sounded so amazing - I wasn't surprised!  Way to go kids!!

Senior Prom

Once West Side Story ended, Spencer was really anxious to get a job.  I'm not sure the Jason's Deli dishwasher was quite what he had in mind, but he started bringing home some dough.  One especially eventful night at work he was surprised by a couple of friends and asked to Prom!  Makayla has been a good friend for years, and this was their third dance together.  It was the Churchill prom, which didn't bother Spencer a bit.  He had a great time!  And how cute do they look together??

Spencer's Mission Call

You know that mission preparations are officially under way when Spencer shows up to church with a short haircut and suit!  We had to take his official picture, complete with missionary haircut, before he could submit his mission paperwork.  It was a long 4 weeks waiting for that envelope to arrive, but Spencer returned home from lawn mowing with the envelope in hand.  AHHHHH!!!  We had to wait for Sunday to open the letter (since he had prom on Saturday night), and it was a long wait.  But totally worth it!  We had a huge group turn out to watch him open his mission call, and it was so awesome to hear the news we'd been so anxiously awaiting.  "Dear Elder Carlson:  You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  You are assigned to labor in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission...."  What a wonderful and exciting day!  And to hear that he was going to be speaking English (his #1 wish) AND going to the same mission as Ethan...well, it was just shocking and exciting and awesome.
